<g:plusone size="medium" count="1" href="http://siteboat.com/future-of-googleorg/"></g:plusone>

In 2004, when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin wrote to prospective shareholders about their vision for the company, they outlined a commitment to contribute significant resources, including 1% of Google’s equity and profits in some form, as well as employee time, to address some of the world’s most urgent problems. That commitment became Google.org.

Google.org is a hybrid philanthrophy, to address world’s most urgent problems and also managing Google Foundation. Google.org is supported financialy as 1% of Google’s equity and profits. Google.org is as “Social Responsible Face of Google” . Google also established the Google Foundation in 2005, which is a separate 501(c)(3) private foundation. The Google Foundation is managed by Google.org and supports Google’s mission and core initiatives as one of our sources of funds for grant making. As of May 2008, Google.org has committed over $85 million in grants and investments to further their initiatives. You can look at the details of Google.org’s projects and investments here.

Now, three years after Google.org was founded, Google is trying to do the best to take things forward. In this blog post of Google; which is posted by Dr. Larry Brilliant, Chief Philanthropy Evangelist of Google.org; Dr. Brilliant tells the future scope of Google.org:

It’s clear that I am most effective in helping to identify “big ideas” and potential partners, as well as raising awareness about society’s biggest challenges. I am therefore very excited to become Google’s Chief Philanthropy Evangelist. I think this is the highest contribution that I can make both to Google.org and to fighting the urgent threats of our day: from climate change to emerging infectious diseases, to issues of poverty and health care. By focusing my energy outwards I hope to be able to spend more time motivating policy makers, encouraging public and private partnerships, and generally advocating for the changes that we must make as a global society to solve these problems. Long-time Googler Megan Smith will take over day-to-day management of Google.org, joining as General Manager to lead us through this transition, in addition to her existing role as Vice President of New Business Development.

One of the first things that Megan will focus on is how Google.org can best achieve its mission. As a first step, Google has decided to put even more engineers and technical talent to work on these issues and problems.

In this global economic crisis, the work Google.org is doing, together with our many colleagues around the world, to help develop cheap clean energy, find and fight disease outbreaks before they sweep the globe, and build information platforms for underserved people globally, is more important than ever. We hope that Google.org will invest more on projects like Flu Trends, RechargeIT, Clean Energy 2030, and PowerMeter and other big companies follow Google to transform their charity organisations into sustainable businesses.

But firstly, i’ll talk about what ‘Clean Energy 2030′ is.

Google continues to invest on our Earth’s future. They have had 2 energy projects, RE<C and RechargeIT we have mentioned before. ‘Clean Energy 2030′ is Google’s new project about using Clean Energy and reducing CO2 emissions. The Energy Team at Google has analysed how we could greatly reduce fossil fuel use by 2030

To the Energy Team at Google, we need immediate action on three fronts:

(1) Reduce demand by doing more with less = More Energy Efficiency

(2) Develop renewable energy that is cheaper than coal = RE<C = Solar, wind, geothermal and others…

(3) Electrify transportation and re-invent our electric grid = Plug-in cars, mass transportation and new electric transmision lines with less loss.

The cost of the Clean Energy 2030 proposal is about $4.4 trillion and savings are even greater ($5.4 trillion), returning a net savings of $1.0 trillion over the 22-year life of the plan.

You can read full article at this official google blog post.

As I’m working as a Strategy and Business Development Consultant, i want to share the basics of business development to help you develop your own businesses, with you. I’ll post some ”Business Development Series” topics which are about innovation and entrepreneurship. The first topic is ‘What’a a business idea and what is not’. An idea is a form (such as a thought) formed by consciousness (including mind) through the process of ideation. (Wikipedia)

A business idea is a concept which can be used for commercial purposes.

A business idea is about a commodity or a service that can be sold for money. Initially, each ideas has no commercial value. First, you must check feasibility and innovativity of your business idea to get more information about your idea’s chance in the marketplace.

A promising business idea must satisfy these tests:
1-Does it fullfill a customer need or solve a problem?
2-Is it innovative and unique?
3-Does it have a market or create a new market?
4-Is it profitable in long term?

The Internet business ideas don’t differ from other business ideas. Before developing an Internet business idea, you should ask yourself the same questions above. So before you start your Internet business, check your idea worth a try turning into a business.

One of the best resources for “Business Idea” topic is Søren Hougaard’s “The Business Idea: The Early Stages of Entrepreneurship” book which you can preview by clicking-on the button below.
Today, the gap between the living standarts of developed countries and undeveloped countries, continues to widen. Social networking hepls us to know about the undeveloped countries more than past. Some smart people use social bookmarking as a tool to reach the whole world to tell what people living in undeveloped countries need.

Nowadays, twitter is a very popular for social networking and also popular for social responsibility projects. This is called “Twitting For Charity”. Twitter co-founder Biz STONE has talked about this new way for charity in his September newsletter.

First example is Mashable ‘s “The Well That Twitter Built” project. Mashable ‘s founder and CEO Pete CASHMORE told his followers about Charity:Water, an initiative to build wells in Ethiopia.

“On September 18th 2008, Mashable’s Twitter followers donated $3536 to Charity:Water, an initiative to build wells in Ethiopia. On the same day, our Twitter friend Paul Young raised a further $637 through his Twitter and Facebook accounts. And Twitter user Sarah Townsend hauled in $400 – that’s more than $4500, almost exclusively from Twitter, in a single day. With $4000 buying an entire well to supply water to 200 people for 20 years, we can truly call this the “well that Twitter built”.” says Pete CASHMORE…
The second example is Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian, a heart surgeon using his Internet marketing business to fund heart surgery for under-privileged children having “Congenital Heart Defects” in India. In August-September every year, Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian holds a 24-hour day and night blogging marathon called Tweet-a-thon Dr. Mani has founded Children Heart Foundation which hepls children to get heart surgeon. In India, a heart surgeon is not as expensive as in US. Each operation costs between 2500 – 3000 $. He’s seeking donations and making conributions from his growing Internet business.

2500 children die every day from congenital heart defects. 1 in 4 of them lives in India. With early detection and treatment, almost all of them will be completely cured.

These two examples show us the power of The Internet via Social Networking to change the world we live. Social responsiblity must be one of the results of an adequate social network. We must thank Pete CASHMORE and Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian for showing us the way to use a social network as a tool to change the world and make better.
